William Hobbs was a stage fight choreographer.

While at school in Australia, Hobbs developed interests in fencing and the theatre. He later returned to the UK and studied for three years at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.

Hobbs served as fight director for Laurence Olivier's National Theater at the Old Vic for nine years.

Hobbs’s feature film credits include The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother (1975), Robin and Marian (1976), Flash Gordon (1980), Brazil (1985), Dangerous Liaisons (1988), Willow (1988), Franco Zeffirelli's Hamlet (1990), Robin Hood (1991), Shakespeare in Love (1998) and The Count of Monte Cristo (2002).

Among the actors Hobbs prepped for scenes involving fencing and sword fights were Peter O'Toole, Tim Roth, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Hobbs died July 10, 2018, in London, England. He was 79.
