Social Buzz: Top TV Shows, March 29-April 4, 2015

The old, the new, the dead - what were you watching?

The excitement of watching a brand new episode of our favorite program causes most of us to rush home, make a beeline to the couch and frantically reach for our remotes (or mouses).

And it doesn’t end there — social media has increasingly become a key ingredient in the cult classic recipe. This week, we look at some examples of shows that are obsession-worthy: The Walking Dead, Younger, Archer, The Grace Helbig Show, The Red Road and Weird Loners.

But which of the following caused the most clicks on social?

  • Rick’s fate hanging in the hands of the people on the season finale of The Walking Dead

  • A single mother reinventing herself as a 26 year old on the series premiere of Younger

  • A hilarious ending to a fantastic voyage on the season finale of Archer

  • The big television debut for a phenomenal YouTube star on The Grace Helbig Show
  • A sheriff’s struggle to police two clashing communities on the premiere The Red Road

  • An unusual bond between two relationship-phobes on the series premiere of Weird Loners

The Social Totals
Speaking of cult classics, The Walking Dead finale ate up pretty much all the engagement among the shows we analyzed, generating over 3.6MM engagements for an incredible 94.1% share. Younger came in next, with 74.8K reactions on Facebook and Twitter combined.

Active Audiences
While there was certainly a large online appetite for tales of the undead, when we look at pound for pound reactions regardless of audience size, it’s the newcomers that climb to the top. Youtube comedian Grace Helbig’s audience was most talkative overall with 2515.8 engagements per 1K users, suggesting they were happy with what they saw. On Facebook, Weird Loners got a lot of company with 1,743.5 engagements per 1K fans.
