About The Event

The Television Academy cordially invites members and a guest to an event...

Penning Pennsylvania Avenue
How Television (Re)Creates the Oval Office

From following a "walk and talk" through the halls of Jed Bartlet's West Wing to negotiating a crisis in Selina Meyer's Oval Office, television series set in our nation's capital have inspired us, challenged us and made us laugh.

But how does one create a fictional world in the country's most recognizable office? Do the secret White House tunnels traveled by Scandal's Olivia Pope really exist, and do the shocking storylines of House of Cards have any historical precedent?

Moderated by Designated Survivor's Press Secretary and real-life West Wing staffer Kal Penn, the panel will include content creators, actors, and political staffers discussing the good, bad, and the just plain made up of Hollywood's Washington, D.C.

Panelists:

  • Barbara Hall, creator and showrunner, Madam Secretary, co-executive producer, Homeland
  • Michelle King, creator, The Good Wife, The Good Fight, and BrainDead
  • David Mandel, executive producer and showrunner, Veep
  • Thomas Schlamme, executive producer, West Wing
  • Bradley Whitford, actor, West Wing

Panelists subject to change. Only Television Academy Members with valid membership cards. Seating is subject to availability; first come, first served. Admittance is not guaranteed.
