John Heard was an actor best known for his role as the father to Macaulay Culkin's character in the Home Alone films. Heard played Peter McCallister in the John Hughes 1990s holiday classics Home Alone and Home Alone: Lost in New York.

Heard also had a guest starring role on the HBO series The Sopranos as Detective Vin Makazian, for which he received an Emmy nomination in 1999.

Additionally, the actor appeared in the films Chilly Scenes of WinterBig, Beaches, In the Line of Fire, The Pelican Brief, Pollock, O and The Great Debaters.

Heard died July 21, 2017, in Palo Alto, California. He was 71.
