For Devine, the Sublime

Adam Devine hosts a traveling House Party.

The locations for Adam Devine's House Party just keep getting better and better.

The first season was shot in Los Angeles, the second in New Orleans and the third, premiering this month on Comedy Central, in Oahu, Hawaii — which not so coincidentally is where series star and co-creator Adam Devine shot the film Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates with Zac Efron. (Look for it in theaters this summer.)

"I fell in love with Oahu so much," Devine relates, still marveling at his good fortune.

"While I was there, I was like, 'What if we do House Party here?' Somehow, Comedy Central just wasn't paying attention. They were like, 'Sure, Adam!'

"We had a great time. I was chugging pineapple drinks and wearing coconut bras. Dreams do come true, kids."

Kidding aside, Devine is making dreams come true by providing much-needed exposure for the up-and-coming comedians featured on House Party. The show's unique format blends scripted comedy in the form of a raging house party with a stand-up showcase. So the comedians get to act in scenes with party host Devine and also perform their routines.

Devine, who spent his youth in Waterloo, Iowa, and Omaha, Nebraska, before moving to L.A. to pursue comedy, knows how important a stand-up platform like House Party can be.

It was after Devine's performance on the stand-up series Live at Gotham (also on Comedy Central) that he and friends Blake Anderson, Anders Holm and Kyle Newacheck got their workplace comedy Workaholics now in its sixth season and slated for a seventh) on the network in 2011.

"My career just snowballed from there," says Devine, who went on to play memorable roles like Andy the manny on Modern Family and a cappella singer Bumper Allen in Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2.

Devine has established himself as a go-to funny guy in both TV and film. So what's next? Hopefully drama. "Jonah Hill has the sort of career path everyone wants," Devine says. "He gets to do everything."
