Dolby 5.1 Sound and the Viewing Platform
The Television Academy Viewing Platform enables Television Academy members to view "For Your Consideration" programs and performances to prepare for Nomination-Round voting, and Emmy Nominees prior to Final-Round voting.
Videos can be viewed on the Viewing Platform: view.TelevisionAcademy.com
You may also view nominees on your iPhone or iPad, AppleTV, Android device, or Roku streaming player.
If you have received a Chromecast, follow the instructions included with it to connect it to your television. You can then cast videos from your mobile device or the website to your TV. Visit chromecast.com/help for even more information.
The Sound and Sound Mixing categories are presented with Dolby 5.1 sound. Directions for experiencing Dolby 5.1 on the Viewing Platform are below.

Viewing Platform on Apple iOS devices - iPhone and iPad
Click here to download the Viewing Platform app from the App Store.
When you have installed the app on your device:
- Launch the app.
- Enter your Television Academy member username and password (Forgot your username or password?).
- Select a category, then a subcategory.
- You will see all the submitted programs or performances in that category.
- Select a program or performer.
- You will see all the submitted videos for that selection.
- Select a video to view it.
Viewing Platform on AppleTV - 4th Generation
To install the app on your 4th Generation AppleTV:
- Open the App Store.
- Select Search from the top menu.
- Search for "viewing platform"
- Select the image that matches the one above.
- Click "Install" to download and install the app.
- Once it has downloaded, click "Open" to open the app.
To use the app:
- Launch the app.
- Enter your Television Academy member username and password (Forgot your username or password?).
- Select your peer group, then a subcategory.
- You will see all the submitted programs or performances in that category.
- Select a program or performer.
- You will see all the submitted videos for that selection.
- Select a video to view it.
For Dolby 5.1 Sound
From the Apple TV Home screen:
- Select the Settings app
- Scroll to and select Audio and Video
- Confirm that the current Apple TV is selected
- Select Surround Sound
- Select "Best Quality Available" or "Dolby Digital 5.1"
- Press menu until the home page is displayed
- Select the Viewing Platform app
- Log in
- Proceed to choose and play a video
- If the video says, "Available in 5.1 audio", then proceed
- When the video begins playing, press the Touch Surface on your AppleTV Siri Remote to pause the video
- Swipe down to reveal the options menu
- Select Audio
- Select English 5.1
- Press the Touch Surface again to resume the video

When you have installed the app on your device:
- Launch the app.
- Enter your Television Academy member username and password (Forgot your username or password?).
- You will see all the peer groups.
- Select your peer group.
- You will see all the categories.
- Select a category.
- You will see all the submitted programs or performers in that category.
- Select a program or performer.
- You will see all the submitted videos for that selection.
- Select a video to view it.
Viewing Platform videos with Chromecast

For Dolby 5.1 Sound
- Make sure your Chromecast is connected via the HDMI cable to your receiver
Connecting the Chromecast to your television will NOT deliver 5.1 surround sound. - If you're using an iOS or Android device: Make sure your receiver is set up for surround sound
- If you're casting from the Web site: Audio output should be in DIRECT, not AUTO SURROUND
- Proceed to choose and play videos
Viewing Platform on the Roku streaming player
NOTE: Roku does not support Dolby 5.1 Sound for Sound Mixing and Sound Editing categories.
- Click here to add the Viewing Platform channel to your Roku account. You may need to log in to your Roku account.
- When the Roku site asks, "Do you want to add Viewing Platform to your Roku account?", click "Yes, Add Channel"
When you have added the channel to your account:
- View your Roku streaming device on your television.
- Using your Roku controls, select Settings.
- Select System.
- Select System Update.
- Select Check now.
- The Viewing Platform channel will be installed on your Roku streaming device.
- Return to your Roku home screen.
- Select the Viewing Platform channel
- Enter your Television Academy member username and password (Forgot your username or password?).
- Select your peer group.
- You will see all the categories for which you may vote.
- Select a category.
- You will see all the nominated programs or performers in that category.
- Select a program or performer.
- You will see all the videos for that selection.
- Select a video to view it.
NOTE: Roku does not support Dolby 5.1 Sound for Sound Mixing and Sound Editing categories.
