British actor Jim Carter stars as the unflappable Mr. Carson, butler to the Crawley family, on the Emmy nominated series Downton Abbey. He has received 2 Emmy nominations for this role.

Carter has been acting for over 30 years and has starred in numerous Masterpiece Theater productions including Midsomer Murders, The Way We Live Now, The Wind in the Willows, and The Secret Life of Mrs. Beeton. Prior to Downton Abbey, he also starred as Captain Brown in Cranford and Mayor Waldo in Dinotopia.

In the movies, he is perhaps best known for playing Fox in The Madness of King George and Ralph Bashford in Shakespeare in Love.
